MALAGA: You know you’re dining in a community almost free of tourists when you arrive in the village of Alhaurin de la Torre; ten minutes drive from the coast and not far from the airport of Malaga.
Restaurant La Flor at Viveros Guzman serves a selection of five starters, five mains and several desserts with a choice of wine, beer and water for the amazing 8,50 Euros. The food is always freshly prepared and served generously. Arrive early as the place is always crammed for lunch.
Starters. We started with the soup Porra Antequera made of tomato and bread added half a boiled egg topped with jamon. Forget gazpacho, this soup is delicious.
Main courses. Estofado de Ternera is a traditional dish of meat, tender and delicious. We also ordered fried sardines and felt they came straight from the sea. The Sardines was served with spring greens and onion.
Dessert. I salute the Chefs and Flan de Queso, the caramel pudding added cheese. Everything was damn good. Between eating, hit the flower power charmy village or buy flowers and trees at Viveros Guzman before you head for lunch in the middle of the flower shop.
After some days in fight for space on the hot squashed coast and eating touristic food along Costa del Sol, you might feel for something more authentic and the best value for money. An advice is served – for free.
