Peru’s food revolution continues to impress travel media around the world. The popular British Food and Travel Magazine recently named Peru “Foodie Destination of the year“ at a gala ceremony in London.  The award was based on a vote among readers of the magazine. In 2012, Peru won “World’s Leading Culinary Destination” at the acclaimed World Travel Awards, an award the South American country has been nominated for again this year.

Peruvian food is best enjoyed in Peru, where making a plate with Ceviche is a serious business. Also the Scandinavians are craving a taste of the world’s most hyped cuisine and they don’t have to wait until the bank account allows for a trip to South America. And London has several Peruvian restaurants.

The dish Ceviche is typically made from fresh raw fish marinated in citrus juices, such as lemon or lime, and spiced with chili peppers. Additional seasonings, such as chopped onions, salt, and coriander, may also be added.

Attesting to the international success of Peruvian food, several Peruvian restaurants are popping up throughout Scandinavia. In Stockholm, Restaurant Tumi opened this summer, serving modern interpretations of Peruvian folk cuisine and street food. They are open for late lunch, dinner and after-work Pisco Sours. Also in Stockholm, Cevicheria Aji y Ajo is specialized in the famous “Peruvian sushi”, ceviche. Denmark’s first Peruvian restaurant, Quinoa, opened this spring in the Copenhagen suburb Vanløse. Quinoa serves authentic Peruvian dishes like Lomo Saltado, ceviche and papa a la huancaina (potato slices in a spicy cheese sauce).
