ZADAR, CROATIA: At this four-star hotel I felt in the centre of 3,000 years history, in a city of dynamic history, often destructed, looted, and devastated, every time emerging from the ruins stronger and more beautiful.
Zadar is an example how to build identity, combining both its natural and cultural heritage with a clear vision of the future.

Location. Bastion Hotel is located in the historic heart, built on the remains of the medieval fortress “Kastel” from the 13th century, only few steps away from cultural monuments of Zadar, including “Sea Organ” and “Greeting to the Sun”.

Style. You feel as you’re a guest in a discerning and wealthy friend’s residence rather than just another luxury-hotel.

My room. Soothing, chick and beautiful, featuring shiny marble bathroom Hotel Bastion has 28 guest rooms all equipped with up-to-date technology. The bed was comfortable with high quality lines and the bathroom was the one you expect at a five star hotel.

Food & drink. Having a few days off in a new city, food plays a great role and at slow food and handsome restaurant Kastel they certainly don’t expect you to starve. The head chef is following the newest world’s culinary trends, uses traditional local ingredients and blends tradition of Dalmatian cuisine in a brilliant playful way. You can also order food to your room. In addition to brilliant breakfasts I had lunch and dinner at Kastel and both times I choose from the fish menu. Because dishes are so fresh, light and served as delicate portions, you don’t feel stuffed, not even after a Soufflé of Chocolate and almonds. This place has a great selection of wine. On the terrace I supped on a well-made cocktail.
Best outdoor bar in Zadar is located directly opposite the hotel.

So Spa – so good. When your romantic life goes a bit down, you need a place where you can recharge your batteries. Wellness Castello is the perfect haven with Turkish and Finnish sauna, feet baths, heated and wooden relaxes chairs, Jacuzzi and cardio fitness, as well as various spa treatments and massage, pedicure and manicure. After a 40-minute session with Dream massage, I emerge feeling in far better emotional mood. I paid 35 euro for Dream massage and walked out of Castello just that little bit taller.

Service. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the general service is no less than spectacular.

Value for money. Two nights in June included breakfast costs 460 USD or 338 euro. Free Wi-Fi and phenomenal location and looks, and with standard and service the hotel offer a level of value comparable to its competitors in Zadar. The Bastion is a bit expensive, but I think it is well worth it – also for my next visit.

When to go. The best time to visit Zadar and Croatia is during the months of May and June and September – October.
