“In crises art becomes more central to our life. Corona-virus changed my way of painting”, a London artist reveals
LONDON ART: Generally, a hardworking art detective`s mission is tracking down the world’s stolen masterpieces. I am operating in the far end of the same market and continue my search for the next art-work of genius. I didn´t expect an exhibition in East London a lead to track down a multi-million-dollar painting – or this to happen sometimes in the near future. But with 10 contemporary artists and such a title, I expected to find new expressions about the new world where art life matters.
From virus o chaos
The invitation to get the message from new art and meet the artists was not to be misunderstood. “Transitions” tells us about the epidemic Covid-19, about the effect created by the Corona-virus, and how the human activities ended into chaos. And how the arts ended on the walls of Espasio Gallery in Bethnal Green.
While the world fights an invisible enemy, artists try to come up with an opinion and interpretation of the Corona epidemic. They try to capture the essence of the epidemic and perhaps explain how scary it is.
Sensible price tags
To create a new million-dollar painting is as challenging as to track down a stolen one. But at this exhibition you can make deals at sensible price tags and return back home without feeling robbed. And if you don´t buy, nothing is like observe new artworks on white walls and meet the artists. Espasio Gallery is such a nice marketplace for buying original paintings, limited edition prints and photography directly from independent artists.
About the Artists
Disease has mystified humans since earliest times. Now the Corona-virus is a reminder of our fragile place in an uncertain world.
“Like it or not, in crises art becomes more central to our life. For me, the virus changed my way of painting – suddenly I switched from figurative to abstract. I felt the time was here to try something new”, the artist Biagio Mastroianni said. Then he added: “Difficult times change people, but I believe there is optimism even in bleak times and I believe art matters more than ever”.
Importance of Art
Traditionally, Bethnal Green has its position as an exciting area where new trends, art and artists come forward. This time around, gallery owner Carlos de Lins showcasing works by artists who reflect their own journeys in the new world.
“Actually, we don´t know where we are heading. But I believe artists will find inspiration and some sort of normality – and hope for the future”, Lins tells. The director of Espasio Gallery is also an artist, but at the moment he is occupied with new exhibitions underway more or less every week. Plenty of Corona-arts are still to come and the search for the next genius has to continue – because art life matters.
