All Shook Up at the Festival of Music, Am-car and “The King”
MÅLØY, NORWAY: In the fishing town of Måløy, people are proud of being able to organize an Elvis-festival that every summer turns the entire town upside down. There will be celebration here and it will be done in a big way and in a way that Elvis would probably be proud of. This is the second time the Festival is being held here. Below is part of the programme of the events that will take place during three days in August.
“How Great Thou Art”. The Elvis-Festival always start on Thursday, with the music that was closest to Elvis’ heart. When Elvis wanted to relax or sing with friends, it was always gospel that was chosen. Therefore, the festival normally starts with the church concert, “How Great Thou Art” in Måløy Church, with soloists and choir.
Graceland Festival Tent
“Follow That Dream”. Friday’s show in the “Graceland” Festival Tent” present the main performance, “Follow That Dream”, and mini-shows with various musicians known from the Elvis environment in Norway and abroad.
“From Madison Square Garden to Måløy”. This was the main show in the Elvis Festival Tent named “Graceland”, which was based on Elvis´ original show from Madison Square Garden. A grand Elvis show that gave the feeling of what a genuine Elvis show was like. Name of the show; “From Madison Square Garden to Måløy”.
“Elvis show on stages in the Town Centre”. No fewer than three stages are set up in the centre of Måløy. On both Friday and Saturday, concerts perform on the stages throughout the day.
Elvis Presley Boulevard
“Elvis Parade”. No Festival without the Parade. All the Elvis musicians join in the Elvis Parade through the town’s parade street, which for this event will be renamed “Elvis Presley Boulevard”. For many guests this is a very big experience.
“Elvis Presley Boulevard”. Along the entire “Elvis Presley Boulevard” there are Norwegian and American flags flying from shops and elsewhere. The shops have exhibitions with themes about Elvis and the Festival. “Elvis Presley Boulevard” is a walking street and you will be able to sit at a roadside cafe and listen to Elvis music without being disturbed by cars.
Am-Car Exhibition. The Elvis Festival will always have its own Am-Car Exhibition and Parade. The Exhibition is very special, and in 2015 Elvis´ Cadillac, a Deville from 1959, use to take part of the Exhibition and the Parade. The car is equipped with 68 shining diamonds set into each bumper. It has a mass of chrome, both externally and in the engine.
Always on My Mind
Cinema. The Måløy Cinema shows Elvis films, such as “Blue Hawaii” and “Jailhouse Rock”.
Wishes you welcome! The entire fishing town on the west coast join in the celebration, and shops stay open till late with Elvis exhibitions and atmosphere. There is a festival harbour for boats and extra parking space in the town centre – as “Always on My Mind”
This Elvis-festival is like a holiday for the whole family! And people always repeated before heading back home: “Can’t Help Falling in Love” with this Festival. See you next year!
