WORLD MASTERS: Apparently a bit delayed but I´ve reached the age where speeding up my life is the only way forward. At least if I like to reach my goal. To test 80 track & field stadiums around the world before I reach the finish line as active travel reporter. Another interesting stop is World Masters in Tampere, Finland, a World Championship for Veterans. These Boots are made for running. Get set!

Sanity and motivation

During the pandemic in 2021, I started to prepare for running fast. When later decided to go for World Masters Athletics, it gave me a bit of sanity, some extra motivation. Suddenly I had a reason to train and a goal to achieve. I became serious, and it all became more fun involved. I don´t just doodle around, not like many people at the gym surfing on their mobile phone. I mean, we all have to put in the effort to get result.

Veteran and Super Veteran

What age is veteran in running?
A Masters Runner is a runner, male or female, over the age of 35. You may have also heard the term Veteran Runner, and is the same as a Master Runner. Competitors are bracketed into five-years age group.

What age is Super Veteran?
In World Masters there is no such category. But Man Kaur from India was branded super veteran when she in 2017 won 100m in 74 seconds at the age of 101 years. She also competed in javelin throw and run 200m, as the only athlete in her age group.

Run and travel

Running on tracks is my main form of exercise. I run three or four times a week in combination with visiting gym twice a week. I went from slow jogging in a park to serious exercise on running fields. And I love it. As a travel reporter I can combine my new sport career with my old job and race of working.

This combination led me to complete a training camp in Cebu City in the Philippines. Four weeks with top coach Alvin Loberanis did wonders, both technically and how to run. For the body, 100m at maximum pace is a brutal exercise. At my amateur level, I experienced some days as I had been in action against Mike Tyson – and lost.

Slowly Holy

But the combination of slow holiday, a bit work and exercise are highly recommended. During my four weeks camp, I came in close contact with the locals and got far more out of my stay than a regular tourist – or even as a reporter. I also recognise how much sports mans to the Filipinos, and my new slogan has changed to “Slowly Holy – fast running”.

Training Camp 2023

If world continue in a normal fashion, King Goya online Travel Magazine plans to invite readers for next training camp in Cebu, start in January 2023. That will be a camp for getting in better shape, explore Cebu as a travel destination and a possibility to speed up your life. On your mark!
More information will follow.

New-born sprinter

People ask why I started to run to become a faster version of myself. The answer is simply; I don’t run to add days to my life, I run to add life to my days.

Looking from my point of view, I experience being a new-born sprinter as healthy and fun. Running sprint is like an escape. Because, both my speed and age are on the rise, but luckily the finish line is always nearby.
