Antigua Carnival and one beach for every day

Carnival a celebration of slavery and a ten-day festival of Antigua in the most colorful costumes

ANTIGUA: I don´t know what the name Antigua means, but it might be a short cut for Sun all year round. This island has 365 beaches and some of the best are in the south east around Grande Anse with good conditions for snorkeling at Morne Rouge. Other good spots are Moliniere Point, Flamingo Bay and Dragon Bay.

Antigua is one of the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean region and the main island of the country of Antigua and Barbuda, they became independent in 1981. Barbuda is located about 30 miles north and can be reached by boat. There is only one village called Codrington.

Festival. End of July until first Tuesday of August there is Carnival and Festival on Antigua with lots of dancing and music performed by steel bands. Local advice; Dress smart casual when dining, only wear swimwear and beachwear on the beach.

The Antiguan Carnival is a celebration of the slavery in the country and a ten-day festival of colorful costumes, beauty pageants, talent shows and good music and a spectacular Parade of Bands. In addition to major events, the revelry includes smaller festivities, local concerts, food fairs and cultural shows.
Barbuda´s Carnival, known as Caribana, is held in June.

Love is in the air, as Antigua is voted Caribbean’s Most Romantic Destination for the fourth time in a row. The capital city of St Jones has a deep harbor and can accommodate  cruise ships.  Antigua is also known as Wadadli, a name comes from the original Amerindian inhabitants and means “our own”.
