FUERTEVENTURA, SPAIN: Opening a review of a five-star hotel by talking about black potato is something I don’t do every year. However, I was surprised to hear an islander asking for quineguas, which is the local name of black potato. But we stay at Atlantis Bahia.

Yamatori restaurant

A land of dreams

Fuerteventura is famous for two things – the year around sun and the potato. In particular the historic black potato, cultivated in the island. The restaurants at Gran Hotel Atlantis Bahia Real serve delicious Canary potato – or Papa Canaria. The recipe is as simple as it is a treat. Put some unpeeled potatoes in a saucepan, cover with water and add sea salt, a lot of salt. After 25 minutes they are ready to eat dipped in Canary mojo sauce.

Atlantis Bahia is like discovering a land of dreams by the shore of the sea in an oasis of luxury. Add impeccable service and personalised attention at one of the most beautiful corners of Fuerteventura. This is a place to remember long after your stay.

Room with sea view

The Gran Hotel Atlantis Bahia Real has 242 rooms divided in six categories, included a spectacular Royal Suite. Make sure you order a guest room with sea view, wake up to the sound from waves and views of the islands of Lobos and Lanzarote. You will feel right at home, with comfort and atmosphere of luxury. Price from double room 185 euro, included breakfast.

Food all-inclusive

This is partly an all-inclusive hotel with great selection of gastronomy, from the grand buffet to “La Cùpula” under the guidance of chef Carles Gaig, owner of a Michelin star. His culinary art turns food into true pleasures for the senses in an unforgettable setting.

Try a variety of dishes from around the world or from the buffet at “La Alacenta Real” or exotic Japanese cuisine at “Yamatori”. Between the pool and the sea view they serve variety of pasta and local fish and the piano bar “El Mirador”. This is the place to enjoy an aperitif, cocktails and drinks, while listening to the sound of live music.
