Lake Safari and exclusive cruise in Sri Lanka

Watching birds and crocodiles and listen to the singing Captain

BOLGODA LAKE: Get on board, We are sailing! Captain Ruwan and his crew are always ready to depart for a lake safari. A surprising and slow morning cruise with breakfast or a dinner cruise under a full moon. All food and drinks served on the upper deck while the houseboat glides the waters smoothly. I have to confess, life and service on steamer “Flow” is quite exclusive.

Cruise with “Flow” is the first of its kind on the bespoken lake Bolgoda. A fleet of two opulent “steamers” are designed to bring guests on a lake safari experience combined with a touch of old world charm. It´s tour tropical surroundings within the lavish interiors of Flow. From the upper deck we put eyes on some exclusive homes and properties. But also recognised plenty of birds, fishermen in action and even crocodile spotting along the lake. No matter where captain Ruwan changed directions on Bolgoda lake, we always return to base, The Marina.

About Lake and Ships

Flow ‘steamers’ are fitted with bio-tanks which dispose of fuel waste in an earth-friendly manner causing no harm to the very lake and ecosystem within which they sit. Flow adheres to stringent regulations provide by Sri Lanka’s environmental authority.

Bolgoda Lake is Sri Lanka’s only natural and largest fresh water lake at a staggering 342 square kilometers. It’s located in the district of Kalutara 45 minutes by car from the commercial capital Colombo and only 28 miles from Bandaranaike International Airport.

Two fishermen collecting Rivergras

Surrounded by unspoilt wildlife and hidden islands, Flow became our unforgettable Sri Lankan experience, perfect for solo travel, couples and families alike. Activities on board and around the lake include fishing excursions on traditional fishing boats with local fishermen and Sri Lankan cookery lessons. Guests may also pre-book on-board spa treatments during their stay.

All stays on Flow include complimentary access to The Marina – an exclusive lake-side private members club which is part of The Amber Collection. Guests may enjoy water sports, excursions, gourmet cuisine and entertainment on selected nights. The Marina provides a swimming pool, hot tubs, cosy cabanas, a reading room and lounge and also a conference suite. Only three cabins on this cruiser and all the peace you can want.

Dining and singing

You dine in style on “Flow” and at The Marina’s fine dining and al fresco restaurants. Guests can enjoy a menu of seafood and local cuisine prepared by The Marina’s chefs. For a quick bite The Coffee and Juice Bar serves coffee, power juices and much more after a long day on the water. Non-members can enjoy all of the facilities at The Marina.

Both “Flow” on the lake and Marina by the lake are certainly two of its kind. Don´t forget to ask captain Ruwan to perform a song or two. He has released a first music album and his absolute favorite to sing through a dark night on the lake is one by Rod Stewart; “I am sailing..”
