London Free Events Eight Days a Week

There are hundreds of free events across London every year

LONDON: London is working to show an ongoing commitment to making the city greener, healthier and wilder. There are hundreds of free events across the capital in celebration of London’s green spaces, wildlife habitats, green rooftops and waterways.

The ambition is to make more than half of London green and increase tree to cover 10 per cent by 2050. City Hall has already funded the planting of 170,000 new trees and 200 green space improvements over the past three years. London is set to grow to over 11 million people by 2050,

The City Stage

They host a free cultural programme in partnership with the National Theatre, on their outdoor River Stage. Highlights included a live performance of family favourite, The Gruffalo, a Pedal Powered Party.

Roof Gardens

The Doddington & Rollo Community Roof Garden is located on top of a 2 storey business centre, between residential tower blocks. It is about half the size of a football pitch and has been run as a community garden since 2010. They grow a wide range of fruit and vegetables and includes a herb maze, wormery, polytunnel and a geo-dome.

Part of redevelopment of The Department Store in Brixton, creating a 5,000sqft timber framed rooftop space with a bar, lounge, dining area and roof terrace. This green pocket rooftop, with views across Brixton, provides freshly grown herbs for the kitchen and bar.

Running Track

White Collar Factory is opening its rooftop garden, cafe and London’s highest running track, to the public. This 150m running track is on the roof of the 14th floor, with stunning views of the London skyline.

Midnight Apothecary is a wild cocktail garden with a rooftop bar and a firepit at its centre. It is a 50ft circular roof garden on top of Brunel’s Thames Tunnel. The plants in the garden are grown to drink rather than to eat, so consist primarily of unusual herbs.

Music. Among London free events, The Putney and Wimbledon Brass Band plays in The Bandstand, Wandle Park, Cornwall Road, Croydon. This event on Sunday 21 July is open to all.
