“I think this is one of the most beautiful cities in Norway”
My City: Ålesund, Norway
Name: Christina Waage
Profession: Miss Norway / Nurse Student
ÅLESUND, NORWAY: “I am a traveller. I love doing yoga and exploring the world. I have visited a lot of different places, including diving paradises such as The Maldives, Bali and Brazil. Diving with manta rays and sharks are some of my loving memories”. Meet Christina Waage, Miss Norway, in her favourite city.
Where do you live? The city of Ålesund on the west coast of Norway. Ålesund has a beautiful setting across several islands stretching out and into the Atlantic Ocean, and is known for its architecture in Art Nouveau style. The city is the cultural centre of the region and boasts several festivals.
Here I grew up: Nes in Akershus, Norway
Why I visit My City
I think Ålesund is one of the most beautiful cities in Norway. The city, the mountains, the people, the sea and not to mention the architecture. Love it!
My first memory: I remember walking the 418 steps up to Fjellstua, and I didn’t really believe the trip would be worth it. I was totally wrong, and now I would recommend it to everyone! What a view, and a great work out!
How do you find the best places to eat when you travel? : I always ask the locals
Favourite place to eat
One of my favourite restaurants here in Ålesund is XL Dinner. The restaurant is by the harbour and the food there is amazing. They also have gluten free options, thumb up! Address: Skaregata 1B, Skateflukaia, Ålesund.
What do you eat there? I usually order the «famous fish platter», but the «Caribou with rosemary» is also one of my favourites.
Typical local food? Bacalao.
Meet the locals: Many of the locals go to «Color Line Stadion» to support their football team. I’m not a big «football fan» but the atmosphere is good and it’s always great to support the local team. Web: https://www.colorlinestadion.no
My favourite bar: I don’t have any favourites. But the locals recommend the Invit Expresso Bar.
Best place for a first date
Fjellstua. The most amazing view I know, and the best way to see Ålesund. You can choose to walk the 418 steps, or drive and have a romantic dinner date on top of Mount Aksla.
My secret place: Synnalandshornet.
My best advice: Remember to bring good shoes.
My favourite shop: AMFI Moa is a shopping center will cover all your needs.
Your fav event
My favourite Event: The food festival. I also recommend to attend the Ålesund Boat festival, Midsummerjazz , Sommerparty, or Jugendfest in the summer. Great atmosphere and good music!
Taxi or other local transport? Catching the bus is the cheapest option and the ferries are a lot of fun!
Keep away of: When it’s extremely windy. The wind can be very strong here in Norway and can even blow you over.
Why do you travel? Travelling is living. I love to explore and to see different places and cultures.
What about the wildlife? If you are planning a visit to Ålesund, I recommend our exciting sea wildlife safari! It’s a must, and I think you’re going to love it!
Where next: Philippines! I will represent Norway for Miss Universe in Philippines, January 2017.
