The staff have perfected the art of treating guests like royalty
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: “Never had Shangri-La offered more concentrated loveliness to the eye; the valley lay imagined over the edge of the cliff. And the image was of a deep unrippled pool that matched the peace of his own thoughts.” The essence of the Kuala Lumpur Shangri-La is captured perfectly in this quote from Hilton’s book the ‘Lost Horizon’. Much like the Shangri-La described in the book this city centre hotel is a concentrated place of calm and tranquility right in the middle of all the action.
Classic luxury
Understated elegance, luxury and classic décor are the hallmarks of this city centre hotel. The atmosphere is up scale but still retains a certain homely feel. With their signature scent wafting in to greet you as soon as you walk through the door, you somehow manage to feel just as comfortable wearing jeans as you would a 3 piece suit walking around the hotel grounds.
Location
The location of the Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur is one of its best advantages. The hotel is within walking distance of the Petronas Towers. If you are not up for the walk there is a complimentary shuttle bus to the Towers and to KLCC Suria mall.
Rooms
We stayed in a Horizon Club Executive Double Room, which had a city view. The room was fairly spacious and decorated in warm autumn colours and had all the modern amenities. Such as mood lighting and a touchpad to control the curtains. The best part of staying here is that you have access to the Horizon Club. Which offers complimentary buffet breakfast, afternoon tea, evening canapés and cocktails , and coffee and tea throughout the day!
Dining international
You will never be short of food options in the Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur. There is a fabulous range of choices including Japanese, French, Chinese, and international cuisine. We tried out Arthur’s Grill, a casual Manhattan pub inspired restaurant serving both local and western dishes. The ambience was laid back and if you are in the mood for simple good food, it’s the perfect place for it!
Facilities and the staff
A full spa and health club are available to guests who want to work out or just book in for a relaxing massage. The swimming pool area, which has views of the Menara Tower, is a wonderful place in which to relax. Although sun-bed space is surprisingly limited considering the size of the hotel. Finally, the staff have perfected the art of treating guests like royalty.
