St Petersburg Hotel – Exclusive taste of Imperial Russia

ST. PETERSBURG HOTEL, RUSSIA. Few things are better than spending a weekend wandering the historic streets of St. Petersburg and stay in a nice hotel like Corinthia. This majestic city of the north has managed to largely preserve its pre-revolution form. Baroque-style buildings still feature prominently with a well-known example being the iconic Winter Palace. The city is in fact a hot bed of architectural feats with grand and opulent buildings at every turn.

Named the World’s Best City for Culture in 2016, visitors have a host of options in terms of things to do and see. Lovers of music will take delight in the Mariinsky Theatre and bookworms can pay homage to the likes of Dostoevsky at the Tikhvin Cemetery. Of course let’s not forget the food! The city offers an excellent mix of trendy new restaurants most of which are run by the Ginza Project, or for a more traditional feast try the 19th century restaurant – Palkin.
For our weekend sojourn to St. Petersburg we stayed at the Luxurious Corinthia Hotel.

Chandeliers dangling from the ceiling

Atmosphere. Opulent. The moment you enter the Corinthia St. Petersburg your eye is attracted to the towering white marble columns that line the lobby. If you let your eye move further up you will notice several tiered chandeliers dangling from the ceiling. None of this understated nonsense here, this hotel was built with luxury in mind.

Location. The Corinthia is smack bang on the Nevsky Prospect – St. Petersburg’s main street. Most of the cities attractions are easily reachable by foot and you will find plenty of restaurants, clubs, and bars in the area. Top tip: we found the best way to get around the city was Uber, the fares barely broke 2 euro and it was easy enough to get a ride at any time of the day.

The bed is soft as a cloud

Bedrooms. Soothing mahogany and creams were the colour tone of choice for the Corinthia bedrooms. The bed itself needs special recognition for being as soft as a cloud, it was really quite dreamy. Both room and bathroom were spacious and tastefully decorated. The rooms also feature all the modern luxury amenities such as an espresso machine.

Dining. The hotel features two main restaurants – The Imperial Restaurant and Café Vienna. Executive Room guests also have access to the Executive Lounge, which serves complimentary food and beverages throughout the day. Dining was the only slight let down of the Corinthia; we found the breakfast buffet to be rather chaotic and would benefit from a slightly larger selection of food to compete with other luxury hotels of this calibre.

Overall. The Corinthia St Petersburg Hotel is a beautiful hotel with a stunning lobby and spacious bedrooms. The location is perfect for exploring the city. The only negative was that we felt the breakfast buffet didn’t live up to the high standards of the rest of the hotel. All in all a great hotel for business or pleasure.
