The Young Nordic Dining with one Michelin Star

Koka is among the new Nordic gastronomy and dining

Gothenburg, Sweden: Before my first visit to Koka I knew this restaurant had the ambition to be the leader in modern, west Swedish gastronomy. The food is based on the finest local ingredients and now I understand they have made it. Years ago Koka won prize as Sweden’s best restaurant, then they received the first Michelin Star. Koka is a Michelin starred restaurant serving the new Nordic dining and gastronomy – and they won’t ruin you.

The Staff at Koka

Inspector’s view When the restaurant was awarded the first Michelin Star, the inspector’s came up with this view: Kock & Vin has been reinvented as Koka, with wooden planks on the floors and walls and wooden furniture to match. Choose 3, 5 or 7 courses from the daily set menu; dishes are light and refreshingly playful in their approach and fish features highly. Well-chosen wines and smooth service complete the picture.

Nordic tastes from the nature

My view. My 3-courses menu came as a Nordic wind along with tastes straight from the nature, from the Sea and with local products created in an artistic way. I was guest at the  restaurant at the time it was a new entry in the new Nordic gastronomy. Our meal was the perfect amount of food for the two of us and the food was made to perfection.

My menu: Starter: Char, tree sprouts and green asparagus. Main: Duck with onion and caraway cheese. Dessert: Walnuts, beetroot, goat cheese, served as a frozen surprise of tasteful cheese. I highly recommend the young Nordic dining in Gothenburg.

Think about the taste

Koka is distinguished by its decor – light wood, clean lines, mood lighting – and a dedication to conjuring up inspired dishes from the seasonal ingredients of Sweden’s west coast. Brace yourself for the likes of mackerel with gooseberries, pork with blackcurrant and chervil ice cream. Don´t think about the Michelin Star, think about the taste of your dining.

Above all, Gothenburg has grown to be the number one food city of Sweden. Here, another big name is restaurant Gabriel – serving seafood from Heaven
