London Wine Advice; Don’t write off bottles with screw caps

One was awarded “Best Malbec of Argentina” – a country well-known for the quality of its Malbec

LONDON: We enjoy wine year round and it brings many of us to food and wine matching – I mean what goes with what. As a fan of Argentine wine I´m more than happy to test one more bottle of Malbec from Mendoza. After all, I booked another visit to Argentina. Not only of wine reasons as this country has much more than juicy steaks and some first-class wine.

Sicilian Wines. Wine from Italy is a safe bet and Sicilian wine is relatively new on the top table. At Salvino Deli in Kentish Town, London NW, brothers Stefano and Antonio Salvino have great passion for food and wine.

“Vini della nostra Terra or wine from my hometown», Antonio says. He is talking about his favourite red, Corvo Rosso made from grape near Palermo on Sicily. His best advice; Open the bottle two hours before drinking. Corvo comes with intense flavour and pair perfect with meat and pasta.

Stefano Salvino with a bottle – Italian wine for sure.

Don´t destroy a nice meal

Stafano Salvino has this one as his everyday favourite red: “Nera d´Ávola” from Sicily for the price of 6 pounds. “Ask for advice, serve red in room temperature and don´t destroy a nice meal with bad wine”, is his advice.

Best Malbec. As member of a wine club in London I ordered six bottles of affordable good wine, white and red, three of each. The price per bottle came down to less than five pounds. One bottle of Opi Malbec 2018 was included.
This lovely red wine taste full flavoured, rich and intense and perfect for beef and venison, and has all you would expect from a quality wine. A vintage was awarded “Best Malbec of Argentina” – in a country that´s well-known for the quality of its Malbec.

Vina Tarapacà

This dry white made of Sauvignon Blanc grape has uplifting aromas of lemon zest, passion fruit and cut grass. This is a much loved wine from Tarapacà estate in Valle Central, Chile.

Classic Aussie. Eden Grove Shiraz 2017 is juicy, fruity and brim-full of ripe berry fruit with a gentle kick of liquorice spice. If you´re searching a typical Aussie style, choose Eden Grove. This is an easy-going wine – for lamb and game.

Wine goes well with Salmon

Fresh and very dry. For 15 years Campanula Pinot Grigio has been a bestseller. This 2017 white from Hungary is very dry, some from lemon and tropical fruits and with a hint of melon. A refreshing wine and price about ten pounds in UK. Goes well with salmon and pasta dish.

Party wine. The Gooseberry Bush 2018 from Robertson in South Africa is a great party wine or partner to spicy stir-fry or salad. With taste of lime zest and hints of gooseberries it’s an easy drinking wine

France. The colour is deep blackish with a deep concentration of red fruits and a hint of herbs and sweet spices. Cabaliè from France has a medal winning history. This one needs no ceremony, just large glasses for serving. I love it and will serve it with a slow braised beef casserole.
Half of these wine bottles come with screw caps. Here is a final advice from the experts; Don´t write them off.
