It´s Snow Time – Here to ski in Austria

Ischgl and St Anton are the party capitals of the Alps

AUSTRIA ON SKI: Get ready for the slopes. Remember Christmas, New Year and February half-term are the peak seasons to avoid, when demand outstrips supply and prices are at their highest. Instead go for mid January, when the price and snow cover shout be guaranteed even in low lying resorts. Low-season March is even better, with longer days and warmer sunshine to ski in Austria.

Gasteinertal im Winter

Hintertux all year

This glacier is one of the best in the world and offers skiing 365 days of the year. The mountains are more challenging and exciting than the main resort.

Pertisau. This small resort is perfect for kids, but there are also runs for those with better skills. There is a choice of seven ski schools.

Obergurgl. The Top Mountain Star restaurant is good for a meal and the centre of Obergurgl is quite in the evenings. This place has reliable snow, high-speed lift system and English-speaking instructors. Slopes for beginners and intermediate.

Dachstein. This is a small ski area with just five lifts, but perfect for a day trip. The Dachstein West ski region is bound with new pistes for more skiing fun, panoramic mountain views to admire and 142 km of perfectly prepared snows to explore with the Dachstein West ticket. Near the larger Schladming. Season from December to end of March.

Schladming. Here the slogan is Gemütlichkeit – The Magic of the Mountains. In Austrian, Gemütlichkeit means cosiness, which perfectly describes this tiny mountain village nestled in Austria’s Schladming-Ramsau/Dachstein sports region of the EnnsValley. The slopes lack variety – one mountain is much like the others. Schladming is only 90 kilometres (60 miles) away from Salzburg’s international airport, and is easily reached by train or bus.

St Anton. The Alberg ski area covers 260km of slopes and also has 180km of off piste to explore. St Anton has a huge selection of chalets and the hills suited for intermediate and expert skiers. This traditional Tyrolean village exhibits an international flair, while offering magnificent scenery. St. Anton is famous for its après-skiing, often said to be the best in the world, and the nightlife is lively.

Ischgl. This Tyrolean resort is the party capital of the Alps. Famed for its all-star opening and closing concerts. Ischgl is a strange mixture of pretty, traditional Tyrolean village, pricey, up market hotels and drunken, bawdy après-ski, dominated by German and Scandinavian males. The slopes are extensive, high, snow sure and ideal for intermediate cruising. The efficient lift system now boasts fourteen high-speed chair-lifts and three gondolas. The resort has introduced a unique refund service if the road to and from it is shut because of avalanche danger. Alternative accommodations will be paid for as long as the road is closed.

  1. Why is there no names or addresses for the seven ski schools in Pertisau nor any names or addresses for hotels or restaurants in this article about Austria ???
